Question Time for U-Talent UP Students

Our outreach coordinator Cecily works together with Lale Yücel and Armin Djogic from U-Talent from Utrecht University. Lale and Armin supervise around 20 students from the U-Talent University Pioneers (UP) program.

Question hour for (possible) future students

They describe U-Talent UP as “a new program for HAVO and VWO students whose parents have not studied at a university or college. As a member of U-Talent UP you will visit Utrecht University and the Hogeschool Utrecht several times during your last years at high school. You will get to know higher education and study together with the other UP students ” (https://u-talent.nl/activities/u-talent-up/).

A very diverse and enthusiastic group of students that we would like to see study at UMC Utrecht. That is why on 1/12/2020 and 8/12/2020 two students of the UMC Utrecht came to visit the groups to talk about themselves, their study and everything around it. A student from Medicine and one from Biomedical Sciences attended each day. After a short introduction of the students, the pupils had enough time to ask all their questions and to be inspired.

"How does the admission process to Medicine work exactly?" "Why did you choose to live in a student house?" "How do you manage financially?" or "What is the difference between Biomedical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences?"

The UP students had prepared these and many more questions. This question time was therefore not only about subject-specific questions, but the students also discussed everything that goes on outside the study. Becoming a student is always exciting! And if you are the first in your family to go to college, you might have a few more questions and find everything just a little bit extra exciting. The U-Talent UP program is therefore important to open doors for students and to provide them with a good foundation before starting their study at college or university.
