PhD ceremony in sneakers - Gijsje Snijders

Ynte Ruigrok receives a one-and-a-half-million-euro ERC Starting Grant. This European grant is awarded to promising researchers who have the potential to become independent research leaders. Neurologist Ynte Ruigrok is looking for smart ways to find risk factors for an aneurysm in the head.

Large collaborative grant for more insight into brain disease

In recent years, many of the genes and DNA abnormalities involved in various brain disorders, such as schizophrenia, dementia and depression, have been identified. The next step is to see what these DNA abnormalities actually do and in which nerve cells. "It's not until you know exactly what's going wrong and where that you can you do something about it," says Jeroen Pasterkamp, professor of Translational Neuroscience at the UMC Utrecht.

3 Veni-grants for researchers Brain Center

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded 166 young scientists with a Veni-grant. The grant provides the researchers with the opportunity to further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years. Among these are three researchers of the UMC Utrecht Brain Center. It concerns dr. Alex Bhogal, dr. Bart Jongbloets and dr. Wouter van Rheenen.

Vidi grant for dr. Kevin Kenna

Dr. Kevin Kenna has been awarded a Vidi grant worth €800.000 from The Dutch Research Council. Kenna, working in the group of Jan Veldink at the department Neurogenetics of the UMC Utrecht Brain Center has gotten the grant for his proposal ‘Decoding genetic disease by decoding gene regulation’.
