Biography

Biography

From the start of my PhD I have been investigating non-invasive imaging technologies for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment guidance. My PhD, at LUMC and ErasmusMC, focused on automated analysis of 3D echocardiography, aiming at positioning 3D ultrasound as a non-invasive modality for 3D assessment of left ventricular function. During my postdocs at UMCU, I broadened my research interests and skills into US & MR brain image analysis (brainshift registration & segmentation, for intraoperative guidance), abdominal MR (DCE-MRI & ASL-MRI), CT spine (scoliosis analysis). The abdominal MR work has led to the development of Drag and drop ASL, offering perfusion imaging in the abdomen without the need for intravenous contrast injection.
The past years, together with Peter Seevinck, I have been developing BoneMRI, software-enabled visualization of bone using MRI, within a close collaboration between UMCU and newly founded company MRIguidance. This has developed into a research line aiming at 1. further improving the image quality for investigating the diagnostic use of synthetic CTs, obviating the need for an additional CT and reducing dose, and 2. developing synthetic CT for monitoring and treatment guidance, obviating the need for the often dedicated, additional CT.
